The cloaked man held his three cards calmly. Johnson, his opponent, clutched his two with far less reserve. He had an Armed Dragon LV7 (2800/1000) along with a face-down card, while the cloaked man had just two face-downs.
“Here goes!” shouted Johnson, “Now that my dragon has gotten rid of your Spirit Reaper, I’ll finish this with a direct attack! Armed Blaster!”
The gigantic dragon roared loudly and launched a volley of saw blades at the cloaked man. They exploded as they smashed into him, obscuring the area with smoke. As it cleared, the man was revealed to be still standing. What was more, he was pointing to an activated Trap Card.
“Immortal’s Gaze.” He said, his voice cold and dark. The card depicted the Blue-Eyes White Dragon facing a charging Marauding Captain in an image similar to Threatening Roar. “I can activate this card if I control no monsters. No attacks can be declared this turn, and I add one Level 7 or higher monster from my deck to my hand.”
Johnson groaned as the cloaked man selected the card from his deck. “Fine, I’ll finish you off next turn.”
The man laughed quietly. “If there is a next turn for you. I draw.” He examined the cards in his hand dispassionately. “First, I will activate my face-down card: Basara. With this card, either player can Tribute a monster to destroy one with a higher Level, and inflict 800 damage to the controller of that monster once per turn. However, I do not plan on using it. Instead, I will activate the Field Card Shadow Zone.” As the card was activated, dark clouds appeared above, occasionally hurling bolts of blue-white plasma. “My next move is to Special Summon the Cyber Dragon (2100/1600) from my hand, which I can do if I control no monsters while my opponent does.”
Johnson watched the cloaked man laying out his cards. It doesn’t make any sense, he thought. He could have used Basara last turn to destroy my Armed Dragon, but he didn’t. Then he summons the Cyber Dragon, which gets no boost from Shadow Zone because it’s Light. What is he planning?
“Confused?” asked the cloaked man. “It will all become clear after I activate my last card: Burden of the Mighty.” The card appeared and began to glow, weakening Johnson’s Armed Dragon LV7’s attack power by 700 points – 100 for each of its Level Stars.
“Now…” said the cloaked man, his voice carrying a note of finality, “Now I send to the Graveyard my Basara, my Shadow Zone, my Cyber Dragon, and my Burden of the Mighty, to summon - ”

The rest of his words were drowned out as a huge whirlwind sprang up. It devoured all of the mentioned cards before expanding. Out of it poured dark energy that covered the field, until Johnson couldn’t even see the cards in his hand. Out of the darkness stabbed a ray of blinding light. His cards exploded. He screamed.
